SALVAGED from the SHELF of DOOM - Painting & Weathering with snow - Takom 1/35th M29 Weasel Model.
Просмотров 7 тыс.14 дней назад
To say the Weasel and I got off on the wrong foot is the understatement of the year. You may recall my review of the newly released Takom kit last year where it seemed the kit was more pig than Weasel. After the pain the build inflicted on me I had no desire to complete the model, it was a review and my work was done…so it sat on the shelf of doom. But it was taunting me every day. So what insp...

    It depends for me. I can build a kit, paint it, weather it, build a diorama and finish it without touching another kit. However, recently I realised that I have multiple kits not finished, and just pick up whatever I want to do. I feel like that is the thing with modelling. Don’t feel forced to do something if you don’t feel any enjoyment. If an idea come to your mind, you can always pick it up and finish it, just like you did.

    Hey, a lovely little diorama. One thing is bothering me though, is how are the signboards be attached to the concrete post as obviously nails wouldn't do it, the look as if they're just stuck there. I know I'm being picky but it bothers me, I'm sad like that

    • @workbenchhobbies4316
      @workbenchhobbies4316 День назад

      Hey - thanks for joining in. I guess it depends on how you use your airbrush and what you expect from your paintwork. If you were just doing flooded solid colours then you could probably get away without thinning, but for shading and fine work then thinning is 100% required. But you do what works for you. I suspect AMMO took the line of no thinning required to make the line more attractive to a greater number of people.

    • @DieTabbi
      @DieTabbi День назад

      @@workbenchhobbies4316 True. I am not good with airbrush. It is luck that I find the right balance in thinning, pressure etc. So a paint without thinning is made for me ^^

    You had quite the journey with this one. Glad to see that in the end you ended up with a nice little diorama. It looks great and is something unique. Now build a real model, like the Takom Tiger tank, Andy's big Sherman or Mini-Art's Puma armored car. Yeah. I'm kidding!! I'm glad you picked an odd ball. I love a good, what's that project. @workbenchhobbies4316 yea. I do remember the tiger. I'm just partly kidding on the 1/16th, but if you feel compiled to do one, go ahead. I mean, a 1/16 Takom type 94 or Panzer 1A is not much bigger than a Tiger tank. Would be interesting to see you tackle such a project.

    Distracted always by the latest Miniart releases, then back to the Dragon boxes of doom, working hard to finish those, many of which were started 10~15 years ago, then end up in the weathering circle of paralysis to be distracted again by the latest releases. I'm not a flip-flopper so much as I am an absolute coward. Hey Clayton, beautiful work as always! :) One small nitpick from a German guy though: You might want to remove the sign "Reichsautobahn Nürnberg-Berlin". This would not be anywhere near the Ardennes. It's a little bit like if the signs "San Francisco, 1 mile" and "LaGuardia airport this way" were on the same sign post. ;)

    Uff nice dilema you pose at the end. I personally do not flip flop in models that require assembling. Reason being is that yeah, the issue of storage other than place them in their box but what would happen if I were to put something heavy on top of it? So I see the model to its bitter end lol😂 (which is not bitter as it is something joyful to see them complete). However since I’m a adamant artillery lover, only twice I set some of the German ww2 artillery pieces on the side because of the sheer number of small parts that was just driving me nuts to do until I was able to finally finish one of those pieces and still have the other yet to be competed (the German möser). But yeah, I build them straight away… although that can’t be said about buying more and more and more sets vs the ones I’m doing as I build them one at a time and buy 3 at a time 😂😂😂 and my mother is not very happy about that as well as my wallet and my closet 🤣🤣🤣

Snow also made from baking soda ,pva and Salt (for sprinkles) .No Varnish and they are still white and not yellowish 😊 I have only a handful of unfinished modells in my stash collectet over the last decade. Normaly a built and paint a model complete before I start a new project. In the last three years I paintet mostly figures to become a better figure painter. And my effort payed off. Great job seeing that kit through to the end . I try to build one kit at a time , but as many of us do ,I have a shelf of doom that has half built kits sitting on it. As long as they are on the shelf they still have a chance of being completed one day , but if I put it back in the box that usually means it is done for .. never to see the light of day ever again. Life is too short to be frustrated by our hobby . That weasel would have been a boxed kit for sure.. (never did buy one) Keep up the great work, I always look forward to your videos.

    A great little dio for the Weasel Clayton, and the road signs and figure really set the scene. Shamefully, I am one of those modellers you referred to, that drop everything when the latest ‘Shiny New Thing’ as you put it, catches my attention, and I will put aside what I am working on and attack it with gusto. Subsequently of course, I have quite a few half finished kits waiting for some TLC. I have taken steps to remedy this situation, and I have put myself on notice that models that I am currently working on, must be completed before I start working on a newly delivered kit. I have even put up a sign to that effect in my hobby room! However, whether my resolve will weaken is in the hands of the Gods I’m afraid. Again, an outstanding result with the little Weasel. Cheers until the next project mate!

    Most of the time i build the model, thinking i will do the running gear later so weathering is easier. Then i come to painting and i just do the primer. Airbrushing is hard because i am either at work or playing with my daughter or she is asleep and i dont want her to wake up from the compressor. Then i build a new one. And repeat the cycle

    The whole scene looks so amazing,I can’t believe you used so much techniques on such a small base,and they all worked so well.Great work Clayton,and I might have to copy the scene idea for a different tank 😆. Thanks for the hard work!

      Copy away my friend. We are all taking inspiration from somewhere or someone else. As long as you’re building models it’s all good!

    Awesome review. The Takom hetzer is a tremendous value for the money. Level of detail of the parts is superb. I've purchased the early and mid variants. A huge bonus that interior components is included as is a metal barrel. I absolutely enjoy full interior builds. Takes the model to a different level. It's great kits are now including interiors. Year's ago for many kits, if one wanted to build the interior, expensive resin aftermarket components were the option. Such as what CMK produced. The only thing that I plan on doing with my build is using Fruil metal track links.

    I just finished the M21 mortar carrier... Comparable to today's standards? No. Still a decent kit that builds up nicely? Yes. Great bang for the buck, especially for someone starting out.
